Memorandum
To:             Prospective boy’s lacrosse officials
From:           Roger Pattee – Michigan Lacrosse Officials Association Trainer
Subject:        Boys Lacrosse Officiating Training Class
When:           Your choice of either Sunday January 18th or Sunday February 15th
All classes will be from 10:00 a.m.  to 1:00 p.m.
Where:  Ultimate Soccer and All American Lacrosse facility on South Blvd. West of Opdyke
We are pleased to announce a training program for boy’s lacrosse consisting of class room activities, on field training and officiating, mentoring, and observation which will prepare you to become an official for the 2009 boy’s lacrosse season. The class room and field activities are an integral part in your progression as a lacrosse official and will be presented and supported by veteran lacrosse officials who are members of MichLOA. After you complete the class room training you will have an opportunity to gain valuable preseason field experience as you shadow a veteran official and later  you will be observed while you assist in officiating games yourself.  This mentoring, observation, and additional training will carry into the regular season as part of a continuing education process as you progress from middle school to high school games.  Rick Jackson, who assigns games at the middle school and high school level for those games in Southeastern Michigan will also participate in these activities. The one time cost for this extensive training is $35 and it includes all printed course materials and annual dues for Michigan Lacrosse Officials Association (”MichLOA”). MichLOA provides all of the in season training, mentoring and on field pre and regular season observation as a benefit to its members.
Upon completion of the class room course, you will have the ability to undertake on field training at All American Lacrosse during its off season indoor program. We are very fortunate that the off season private programs fully support MichLOA’s efforts and desire to train new officials and provide newer officials valuable on field experience.
Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in the area. You will have an opportunity to participate at all competitive levels of the game and enjoy a flexible schedule. Current officials come from a variety of backgrounds relative to experience as an official or with the game itself. The only true prerequisites are a willingness to prepare and participate, a good attitude, and a desire to give your best effort.

Charting The Future of Youth Lacrosse In Michigan

You are encouraged to attend a meeting on Saturday December 6, 2008 to provide input to MYLA regarding youth lacrosse in Michigan.  You will also have the opportunity to begin to set up your game schedule for the spring season.  This meeting is for both boys and girls youth lacrosse programs.

The meeting will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Ultimate Soccer Arenas, 867 South Blvd., Pontiac, MI 48341.

The primary purpose of the meeting is to solicit feedback on ways that we can improve the quality and growth of youth lacrosse. You will also be able to plan game calendars with other coaches.  There will be additional opportunities to schedule games before the season if necessary.

In the meantime, if there are issues of significance you feel should be addressed toward the objectives of growth and quality, please feel free to email them to uslm@skalaw.com.

US Lacrosse Michigan is committed to devoting the attention and resources necessary to make youth lacrosse the best that it can be for all.  The opportunity to move ahead with MYLA is a great one and we hope you will take the opportunity to participate in this most important event.
