7v7 General Tournament Information
1. Parking and Traffic.
MAPQUESTERS: IT’S 51000 WEST EIGHT MILE ROAD, NOVI, MICHIGAN 48167.
a. Parking Permits- You have been provided with 6 parking permits. Your group may park no more than 6 vehicles at Novi Sports Park, site of the tournament.
b. Do not attempt to duplicate your parking permit. Permits will be checked upon arrival and each number may only be used once.
c. In and out privileges- You may exit and return. However, your permit must be stamped by one of our staff members (with our cute and secret stamps) or you will not be able to use the permit for re-entrance.
d. The only entrance to the park is on Napier Road, north of 8 mile road. (Napier is on the west side of the park. The park is north of 8 Mile.)
e. The only exit from the park is at the 8 mile road side.
f. Arrive early: It will take time to check in all vehicles.
g. Where to park- You may only park in lots within the sports park. You may not park along the road within the sports park. There is no parking on Napier Road or 8 Mile Road. If you park there, your car will be towed and our tournament will be in trouble with the City of Novi.
h. Handicapped Parking- Vehicles with Handicapped permits may park either in a lot within the park, or on the east side of the road inside the sports park. Handicappers do not create additional vehicle privileges. If you choose to have a handicapped driver utilize one of your 6 team permits, that is fine. But handicappers will not create a 7th 8th or 9th vehicle.
i. Remote Parking- Mayberry State Park is located about a half mile to the east of the Novi Sports Park on 8 Mile Road. You may park additional vehicles there for a $6.00 day-fee.
j. Parking on the interior sports park road is limited to handicappers, game officials, tournament staff, and vendors. All other cars towed on the interior road will be towed after we destroy all windows with lacrosse balls.
k. Please leave open space in the area of the restrooms in the middle of the sports park. This is the headquarters area for the tournament staff and vendors.
l. Large RV’s will count as 2 parking passes. Buses will count as 3. RV’s and Buses should consult with parking staff at the entrance for parking location information.
m. No vehicles may drive upon or park on any grass surface. There are no exceptions.
n. We ask for your consideration and cooperation regarding parking and traffic. These restrictions are needed to assure a reasonable amount of parking for all.
2. Game Times & Fields.
The game schedule is posted in a separate entry on the website as an excel spreadsheet.
a. At the bottom of the spreadsheet, you should locate your gender and level of play. Example: Women’s Varsity. Find your team name in your “pod”. At that point, you will find your team designation. Example: WVA. Using that information, you will be able to locate your game times and fields.
b. A field map will be posted on our website (www.michiganlacrosse.org) during the week of November 3. You can check that field map for your locations.
c. With all possible lacrosse love, please do not complain about whether your opponents were too hard or too easy. This is a self-seeded, 7v7 fun lacrosse tournament.
3. Your Team’s “Personal Space.”
a. We ask that your team’s tents be grouped in the following locations:
· Around the northernmost parking lot (furthest from 8 Mile Road).
· Around the tennis courts near the 8 Mile exit.
b. PLEASE PICK UP 100% OF YOUR TRASH. Please bring adequate trash bags for this purpose. (We will have rolloff containers in which you can dispose of garbage bags.) This is an all-volunteer tournament. We don’t mind the great amount of work required to put it on. We do object to picking up your garbage. If we can identify groups leaving garbage, we will do our best to exclude you from this tournament in perpetuity (or until the Lions win the Super Bowl, whichever happens last.)
c. You may BBQ, so long as you do not harm the park in any way. BBQ’s may not be placed under tents. The Novi Fire Department will be checking the situation.
4. On-Site Food.
AMJ Distributing, our catering specialist, will have on-site food service from breakfast though the end of the tournament. Their food is truly excellent. After breakfast, they will be serving a full line of BBQ items including pulled pork, ribs, and all other BBQ items. (As tournament director, I save up my annual quota of sausage-eating for this event!)
5. Rules of Play
a. Boys and girls rules are attached. (My advice: don’t over-analyze things. Just play lax. Win the ground balls, don’t commit turnovers, and the rest will take care of itself.)
b. Let’s make this a fun day of lacrosse. We are not playing the national championship here. If you didn’t have an opponent and game officials, you wouldn’t have a game. Let’s play lacrosse for the fun of it today.
6. Bad Weather?
a. Do good-weather dances from now until the tournament is well over.
b. In the unlikely event that our combined positive vibes fail, the City of Novi is in charge of go-no go to protect the fields. If they say stop, we stop. As indicated in our registration materials, we will not make refunds in such cases. We must cover our costs of the tournament, and this is also the primary fundraiser we use to grow lacrosse in Michigan. Thank you for understanding. (In the event of weather cancellation, angry middle school girls may shoot lacrosse balls at me. All others will just have to cope otherwise.)
c. Lightning/Thunder? We must return to cars in the event of either. Play will not resume for 30 minutes from the last lightning/thunder.
7. Special Attractions, courtesy of Detroit Lacrosse Company.
Kristen Kjellman, everybody’s All American from the 4-peat NCAA Champs Northwestern University Wildcats, will present a Women’s lacrosse clinic from 11:30 to noon.
Anthony Kelly, hardest shot in the world (at 109 mph) will be on site and signing autographs.
